“Neither
is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we
must be saved.” Acts 4:12
Many songs have been sung and many books written about the
precious name of “Jesus”. There are
over 160 direct or prophetic; names, titles, roles, or positions for “Jesus” in the Bible. As you might
expect, Jesus’ name means “Jehovah is salvation” or simply “saviour” as one of
the first mentions of his earthly name implies, “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name
JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21).
Is He your saviour? “All the prophets”
gave “witness” of this one who remits
sins through belief in his “name”.
“To him give all the prophets
witness, that through his
name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.”
Acts 10:4
Even the lost realize the power of Jesus’ name, because when
they want to curse something or someone, they cry “Jesus Christ” this or “Jesus
Christ” that to add power to what they are saying. No one curses in the
name of Mohammed, Allah, Buddha, Confucius, etc., because there’s no power in
the name of false gods. Consider this Biblical list of the power invoked in
Jesus’ “name”:
·
The disciples preached in his “name” – Luke 24:47
·
The disciples were persecuted for his “name” – John 15:21
·
The disciples did miracles in his “name” – Acts 3:6, 16; 4:10; 19:13
·
We become a son of God by believing in his “name” – Mt. 12:21; John 1:12; 2:23
·
We pray in his “name” – John 14:13; 16:23 – 26; Eph. 5:20; Col. 3:17; Heb. 13:15
·
We are preserved by his “name” – John 17:11
·
We have life through his “name” – John 20:31
·
We are justified by the “name” of Jesus – 1 Corinthians 6:11
·
We baptize believers in Jesus’ “name” – Mt. 28:19; Acts 2:38
·
Demons were cast out in his “name” – Acts 16:18
·
Paul was ready to die for his “name” – Acts 21:13
·
People are condemned for not believing in his “name” – John 3:18
As we near this time of CHRISTmas when is politically
incorrect to even call it Christmas, we understand that it is a hated name
because the reciprocal of using such a high name mandates our submission to
Him. All the world will one-day bow at Jesus’ “name” though, so we can either bow down now, and accept him as
Lord, or we can wait until the judgment and accept him as judge.
“That
at the name of Jesus every knee should bow…” Philippians 2:10
How about bowing that knee right now friend? He loves you so
much and wants to give you life and life “more
abundantly” (John 10:10). By simply calling upon “the name of the Lord” through prayer, you can have that life, right
now. It sounds too easy but it is the only way that salvation could be offered
to every person, at any location, at every time in history. Don’t hyper
analyze, don’t procrastinate, only believe, and make that call today, for there
is “none other name”!
“For whosoever shall call upon the name
of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:13
